Kale is extremely hardy and easy to grow, producing nutritious leaves which are rich in iron and vitamins A, C & E. Best used in soups and stir fries.
Indoor Planting: Sow seeds thinly 1cm deep in trays of moist compost, be careful not to over-water. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin to 6" (15cm) apart. When the plants are 10-15cm high, transplant outside after all chance of frost has passed, leaving 18" (45cm) between plants.
Outdoor Planting: Sow seeds 1.5cm deep direct in growing beds in rows 6" (15cm) apart. Keep the soil moist and be careful not to over water. When large enough to handle, thin to 18" (45cm) apart. Pick the leaves when they are young and tender, by removing a few at a time starting at the crown of the plant. Pick off the yellow leaves and ensure the area is kept weed free.
