Runner Bean Best Of All

A popular early variety, producing heavy crops of large pods with an excellent flavour. They also make an attractive addition to your garden.

Indoor planting

Sow seeds 3cm deep in trays of pots of moist compost, be careful not to over-water. Store in a warm place at an approx. temperature of 16c (60f)

Growing On

When seedlings are strong enough to handle they can be planted out 12” (30cm) apart in your desired location in May. Harden off first.

Outdoor planting

Sow seeds 5cm deep direct in growing bed in rows 6” (15cm) apart, which a space of 6” (15cm) between each seed. For best results sow in double rows with a space of 12” (30cm) between each row, allow 18” (45cm) between each set of double rows.Keep the soil moist. The beans will need support as they grow, netting or canes are ideal. Pick the pods regularly to extend the harvest period. Runner beans are deep rooted and therefore, require a well cultivated, water retaining soil. Plant in a sheltered area and protect with cloches from late frosts.
